Initiative - Python for Geospatial Analysis

Python for Geospatial Analysis

The PhD course Python for Geospatial Analysis was held at Aalborg University Copenhagen in April 2023. It provided an introduction to Python with a focus on mapping, exploring, processing, and analysing geospatial information using Python. Participants have learned how tasks traditionally conducted in a desktop GIS system can be easily transferred to Python code and therefore made faster, more flexible, and completely reproducible, which is an aspect of increasing importance in many research fields. Participants have gained a solid understanding of the capabilities of core Python modules for geospatial information such as fiona, geopandas, pysal, or rasterio to apply them in their own research.

Funding: 500€ per student for travel and accomodation

Course dates: 24.–26. April 2023

Granted Participants:

  • Yue Li, Urban Big Data Centre, University of Glasgow
  • Tereza Pohanková, Department of Geoinformatics, Palacky University Olomouc
  • Roland Shanks, University of Glasgow
  • Yashvini Shukla, Nottingham Geospatial Institute, University of Nottingham
