Few words about Limassol
The district of Limassol (Lemesos) covers the south part of Cyprus, and borders the district of Larnaca in the east, with the district of Paphos in the west, as well as with the capital Nicosia in the north. Limassol is the second largest urban area in Cyprus, with an urban population of 160,000–176,700. Limassol has been ranked by TripAdvisor as the 3rd up-and-coming destination in the world, in its Top 10 Traveler’s Choice Destinations on the Rise. The climate of Lemesos (Limassol) is warm and dry in the summer and mild in the winter; i.e., a marvelous Mediterranean climate.
Limassol was built between two ancient cities, Amathus and Kourion, and during Byzantine rule it was known as Neapolis (new town). Limassol's historical centre is located around its medieval Limassol Castle and the Old Port. Nowadays, Limassol is an important shipping and trade centre of Cyprus. Limassol has two ports, commonly referred to as the "Old Port" and the "New Port". The new port has the greatest commercial and passenger traffic flow and is the biggest port in the Republic of Cyprus. During the last years, Limassol has experienced a construction boom fueled by the tourism sector, as well as by increasing foreign investments in the city. Public projects are improving the quality of life, and boost the image of the city as a cosmopolitan destination. Most of the hotels, restaurants, confectioneries, discos and places of entertainment in general, are to be found in this area.
