The empire-style main building was designed by Carl Ludvig Engel and it was completed in 1832.

Helsinki City reception

The City of Helsinki, as an AGILE 2016 sponsor, invites you to a welcome reception on Wednesday, June 15th at 19:00-20:30. The reception will take place at the Helsinki City Hall (address: Pohjoisesplanadi 11-13), a short walking distance from the Helsinki University.

The City Hall was designed by C.L. Engel as a hotel in 1833, the building has been the City Hall since the 1930s. The Helsinki coat-of-arms can be seen on the tympanum. With the exception of the facade, it was completely rebuilt in 1967-1970 under the architect Aarno Ruusuvuori.

Gala dinner

The Gala dinner on June 16 th at 19:30-23:00 will take place at Restaurant Saaristo, on the Island Klippan, in front of Helsinki. It offers an amazing view and atmosphere for your enjoyment. You can admire the Empire-Helsinki skyline in the North, the Suomenlinna fortress in the South and the crafty and romantic wood cuts in the historical dining room. Saaristo’s white Art Nouveau style villa, built in 1898, is one of Helsinki’s most imposing and traditional restaurants.

A connection boat to the restaurant serves from a pier located near to the Olympia-terminal, next to the Peace Statue. The sea journey takes a few minutes. Please, arrive at the pier latest at 19:15. If you come late and the boat is not at the pier, raise the wooden signal sign located at the pier. The boat will then come and pick you up within 20 minutes.

You can come to the pier by a bus, walking, tram, or taxi. With the taxi ask to take you to Klippan’s pier or give the address Ehrenströmintie 14, also known as Valkosaaren lähtölaituri. The conference's complementary bus leaves from the Senate’s Square, in front of the Cathedral. The bus is filled in the first-come, first-served basis. The first bus leaves at 18:10, and next transfers will be approx. at 18:30, 18:50 and 19:10. If you want to get to the pier by tram, take either the tram Number 2 or 3 towards Kaivopuisto. Be prepared to pay the tram driver in cash (3.20€) and note that the driver might not accept notes larger than 20€.

After the dinner, regardless of how you got to the pier, there will be a bus back from the pier to the Senate Square starting from 22:20, and approx. every 20 minutes. The last bus will leave around 23:20.
