1 Icebreaker Reception: Òran Mór (4 June 2024, sponsored by ESRI Global)

The icebreaker reception will be held at the Auditorium of Òran Mór, featuring a traditional Scottish Ceilidh dance. Formerly Kelvinside Parish Church, Òran Mór, Gaelic for ‘great melody of life’ or ‘big song’, is a thriving arts & entertainment venue in the heart of Glasgow’s West End.

2 Social Activities (5 June 2024)

Option 1: Glasgow University Tour (free)

Duration: approximately 60 minutes.

This guided walking tour of Glasgow University offers you the opportunity to discover more of our historic campus and learn about the University’s architecture and over 550 years of history. The campus combines historic grandeur with picturesque (and very instragrammable!) surroundings offering a window into centuries of academic excellence. The walking tour will explore the campus’s rich history and connections with luminaries such as James Watt, Adam Smith, Isabella Elder, and Lord Kelvin. The tour highlights include the iconic Main Building (also known as the Gilber Scott Building), the University of Glasgow Memorial Chapel, the beautiful Lion and Unicorn Staircase which dates back to 1690, the exterior of the Principal’s Lodgings, Professors Square, and will conclude in the Main Building Quadrangles showcasing the cherished Cloisters and a real highlight of the University.

Option 2: Glasgow City-Centre Walking Tour (free)

Duration: approximately 90 minutes (including transfer from UofG to City Centre)

Discover the heart of Glasgow with a walking tour that begins at the lively George Square, the city's central hub adorned with historic statues and grand buildings. From there, explore the Gallery of Modern Art and the whimsically adorned statue of the Duke of Wellington outside. The journey continues through Merchant City, famous for its Victorian architecture and vibrant street murals that bring the city's artistic style to life.

Venture next to Glasgow Cathedral, a magnificent example of medieval architecture. Just a short walk away lies the Necropolis, a Victorian-era cemetery offering serene views over Glasgow. The loop back to George Square offers a moment to reflect on Glasgow's rich cultural and historical heritage.

Option 3: Whisky tasting (£24.5/person, space is limited)

6pm @ The Pot Still Pub, 154 Hope St (in Glasgow city centre close to Buchanan Street Subway Station).

Join us for a private whisky tasting at The Pot Still pub in Glasgow’s city centre. The Pot Still is famous for its whisky selection, stocking over 800 different whiskies, and has won numerous awards including pub of the year, and whisky bar of the year. At the whisky tasting you will be taken on a mini tour of Scotland by sampling 4 different whiskies (20ml samples) from different parts of Scotland. There will be an expert host for the tasting who will guide us through the tasting and provide information on whisky in general and the specific whiskies we will be sampling. Included in the price is a traditional pie so that you don’t get hungry whilst you are sampling the whisky.

3 Conference Dinner with Civic Reception: The City Chambers (6 June 2024)

7pm - 11pm @ 23 Montrose St, Glasgow G1 1RE.  

The Civic reception will be hosted by The Rt Hon The Lord Provost of Glasgow, which will be followed by conference dinner at the City Chambers. The City Chambers is a building at the heart of Glasgow’s political and civic life. It’s a magnificent example of Victorian architecture. Built at the height of the British Empire and representative of the ambition and vision of that era. 

Public tours are conducted twice per day at 10.30am and 2.30pm Monday - Friday.
